Bayern Munich manager pep Guardiola certainly seems to be keeping cool under pressure as he faces the prospect of Champions League elimination tomorrow at 2:45 p.m EST. 

One of the very best teams in the world, Bayern find themselves trailing FC Porto 3-1 on aggregate. Because they scored an away goal in the first leg, Bayern only needs to win 2-0 in order to advance, which, given the talent level the club commands, is entirely possible. 

Last week, Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season. Klopp is one of the most respected managers in Europe and his departure likely will set off a bidding war for his services next season. The announcement comes in the wake of Borussia Dortmund’s worst season in years, one that has seen them shrink from being one of Europe’s powerhouses to a side stuck in the middle of the Bundesliga table.

Borussia Dortmund played bright, attacking soccer and delivered its most luminous performance of the year in a 3-0 dismantling of rivals Schalke on Saturday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winner. 

Borussia Dortmund was forced to shut down its facilities and evacuate its stadium this week when a World War II era, unexploded bomb was found in the parking area next to its stadium. 

What a coincidence, we were just talking about how we all need more World War II in our lives.

The bomb was found after an ariel photograph clued investigators into its location. Once found, authorities called for an evacuation of the threatened area and set about defusing the bomb. 

Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. (EST), it all goes down. 

Either we are witnessing the greatest fall from grace, or the start of one heck of an epic comeback. Dortmund is currently 15th in the Bundesliga, just a single point ahead of the relegation zone, yet they have been on fire in the Champions League. If Dortmund goes on to win the Champions League only to be demoted domestically, it would be the first time ever in the tournament’s 65 year history.  

No one knows what has happened to Borussia Dortmund. The club that was in the Champions League Final only two years ago is now dead last in the Bundesliga, and in serious, serious risk or being relegated. It goes beyond just losing Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski. Even the injuries cannot explain it all. 

Dortmund has just been bad — really, really, bad — and their fans have had enough. They are enraged, confused, and looking for answers from a team that has disappointed them over and over again.
