Caen Fans Give Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe A Standing Ovation After He Tears Them Apart

Fresh off of eliminating Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16, AS Monaco travelled to Caen for a Ligue 1 match on Sunday. The people of Caen began the match by applauding their achievement, and they ended it by giving 18-year-old striker Kylian Mbappe a resounding standing ovation.

As cliche as the label of “the next Thierry Henry” is, Mbappe appears to be just that. After breaking Henry’s records for the youngest-ever senior debutant and youngest goalscorer in Monaco’s history last season, he’s quickly become one of the most feared strikers in the world.

The Frenchman has scored 11 goals in his last nine matches, including two against Manchester City and a brace against Caen on Sunday. His first goal against Caen was a wonderful solo effort, leaving two defenders in his wake before finishing beyond the goalkeeper.

Monaco took a 2-0 lead thanks to Mbappe winning a penalty for his side that Fabinho converted. Mbappe grabbed his second and Monaco’s third in the 81st minute with a well placed header.

Mbappe was subbed off in the 88th minute, and the home supporters rose in unison to applaud the youngster that had just demolished them.

While Mbappe hasn’t yet made his France debut, all of the country is witnessing the transformation of a prodigiously talented striker that will certainly go on to have a long international career.
