Madrid Fans Are Wrong To Use Cristiano Ronaldo As A Scapegoat

We previously wrote that Real Madrid fans are the worst fans in the world after they jeered Cristiano Ronaldo before their game against Celta Vigo. Ronaldo went on to score four goals in a 7-1 demolition, but that didn't seem to matter.

Then, he scored his 90th Champions League goal and assisted another in Madrid's 4-0 aggregate victory over Roma only to be jeered again. But now there's a stat that really should just silence the boo boys. Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 40 goals or more in all competitions in the past six consecutive seasons.

That is a frankly ridiculous stat. He also has 75 goals and 26 assists in just 71 appearances in the Champions League for Real Madrid. He became Real Madrid's record goalscorer in less than half the games it took second-placed Raul to reach the same tally.

Oh, and he has now scored 351 goals in 335 appearances for Real Madrid.

The simple truth for Madrid fans is that Ronaldo is not the problem. He's never been the problem.

The fact that Ronaldo has played under five managers in seven seasons: that's a problem.

The fact that Real Madrid have brought in 47 players and let 59 players leave while Ronaldo has been at the club: that's a problem.

The fact that there are only nine players left in the squad from the last time Real Madrid won La Liga: That's a problem.

Sami Khedira? Gone. Mesut Ozil? Gone. Angel Di Maria? Gone. Gonzalo Higuain? Gone. Alvaro Morata? Gone. Xabi Alonso? Gone.

You could arguably make a stronger 11 with the players that have left Madrid since that season than the one Zinedine Zidane is fielding now – I feel like you know what we're going to say Madrid fans: that's a huge problem.

I guess what we're saying is that it would be wise to lay off Ronaldo and focus your anger towards the real problem: Florentino Perez. The lack of consistency that this man brings to your club means that you will never---NEVER---knock Barcelona off its perch.

Barcelona is a team with an identity. It is a family. Until Los Blancos can establish that same sort of team spirit, they will always be destined to lose.
