Lionel Messi has been suspended from four Argentina World Cup qualifiers (one has already been played) for saying something really bad, either (if FIFA is to be believed) to an assistant referee or (if Messi is to be believed) to the air. Argentina's World Cup qualification may hinge on Messi's excuse holding water.

Most everyone swears aloud at no one in particular from time to time. I'm not going to come out and say that Messi definitely wasn't insulting the air. He could have been insulting the air.
But.
The video is not doing him any favors in the making-his-excuse-believable department. On the other hand, FIFA's track record in matters like this isn't exactly sterling.
