Christian Beck Scored One Of The Oddest Back-Heel Goals We’ve Ever Seen

FC Magdeburg scored a 2-1 derby win over Hallescher on Saturday in Germany’s 3. Liga in front of 22,481 fans. The impressive crowd — more than many MLS matches despite being third tier — saw an absurd Christian Beck back-heel goal the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

A 29-year-old striker who has spent his career in the lower divisions of Germany, Beck made the most out of a mistimed jumped to score the opener for Magdeburg, somehow.

In the eighth minute, Beck went up for a header in the box, realized he was completely out of position for a header and instead flicked his leg back and up toward the ball. His heel connected with the ball and redirected it into the back of the net, leaving the Hallescher goalkeeper no chance to make a save.

Just like he drew it up.

The crazy back-heel goal sparked Magdeburg to an early 2-0 lead after Michel Niemeyer added a goal in the 12th minute. Hallescher got back into the match with an own goal in the 67th minute and both teams had players sent off before Magdeburg held on for the victory.

Magdeburg boasts impressive supporters who created the scariest tifo of the year. They’re averaging 17,827 fans per match and are second in 3. Liga as they near the midway point of the season. With goals (and tifos) like that, we hope to see them in 2. Liga next year.
