England reveals squad that will challenge the USWNT for World Cup glory this summer

BIRMINGHAM — Bethany England and Millie Bright were included in England manager Sarina Wiegman's 23-player squad for the Women's World Cup on Wednesday as the Dutch coach dealt with missing a number of key players due to injury.

Wiegman unveiled her selection 50 days before the World Cup kicks off in Australia and New Zealand on July 20.

USWNT star Catarina Macario confirms she won’t be going to 2023 Women’s World Cup

United States women’s national team and potentially soon-to-be Chelsea midfielder Catarina Macario posted on social media that she won’t recover from her ACL injury in time for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

With the tournament starting in less than two months the 23-year-old looked like a long shot for making the roster. She missed the entire 2022-23 season for her club team Lyon (France) after suffering an injury to her left ACL in June 2022.

Catarina Macario set to sign with FA WSL giants Chelsea

USWNT midfielder Catarina Macario is set to sign with FA Women’s Super League side Chelsea this summer per The Athletic. Her contract with Lyon expires at the end of the season. 

The 23-year-old standout missed all the 2022-23 season with an ACL injury to her left knee that she suffered in June 2022 during Lyon's final league game of the season. She’s nearing a return to action and will be hoping to recover in time for a shot to make USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski’s 2023 Women’s World Cup roster.

England suffers massive blow as captain Leah Williamson will miss World Cup with ACL injury

England captain Leah Williamson said she will miss the Women's World Cup after her club Arsenal confirmed she had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in a Women's Super League match against Manchester United.

Williamson, 26, went down in pain 12 minutes into their 1-0 loss to United on Wednesday and she was helped off the pitch by medical staff before limping down the tunnel.
