England defeated Switzerland on penalties (5-3) after a 1-1 stalemate to book a place in the Euro semifinals on Saturday. A Xherdan Shaqiri Olimpico effort nearly sunk England in extra time.

While Saturday’s result will be remembered for England’s brilliance from the penalty spot, we wanted to highlight how close Shaqiri was to scoring the goal of the tournament and arguably the goal of his career.

Maximilian Araujo, Darwin Nunez and Matias Vina scored as Uruguay beat Panama 3-1 in their Copa América Group C match in Florida on Sunday.

Uruguay, who have won the Copa America a joint record 15 times, were rewarded for their blistering early pace when Araujo fired home a sublime curling effort from the edge of the area in the 16th minute.

The decision ended months of arguments between Barca and Xavi who made 767 appearances for the club over 17 seasons and helped them win 25 major trophies.

Toni Kroos announces his plans to retire after Euro this summer

Germany and Real Madrid midfielder and legend Toni Kroos is hanging up his boots he announced on Tuesday. One of the greatest midfielders to ever do it will compete for his sixth UEFA Champions League trophy and Euro 2024 before he finishes playing.

Kroos began his career with Bayern Munich, played with the club until 2014 winning a Champions League title and then made his big move to Madrid.

Phil Foden has been voted the Premier League's player of the season, the league announced on Saturday after the 23-year-old had the best campaign of his career to help put Manchester City within reach of their fourth consecutive league title.

Foden has scored 17 goals and grabbed eight assists in 34 league games this season playing centrally as well as on the wing when needed. He has 25 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
