United States men’s national team midfielder Johnny Cardoso played a key role in Real Betis’ 2-1 upset victory against Real Madrid on Saturday. The American headed in an equalizer from close range in the first half.

With Madrid leading 1-0 early in the first half, Johnny chose perhaps the best time to score his first LaLiga goal of the season. In the 34th minute a Betis corner was swung into the box and a wide-open Johnny was there to smash in the equalizer.

Cavalry FC make history as first Canadian Premier League club to defeat a Liga MX side

History was made on Thursday in the Concacaf Champions Cup as Cavalry FC stunned Liga MX giants Pumas 2-1 in a first leg upset. No team from the Canadian Premier League (CPL) had ever defeated a Mexican club before.

In fact, no CPL club had ever won a Concacaf Champions Cup game prior to Thursday night.

Cavalry secured the victory 450 miles away from their usual home ground as the temperatures in Calgary were too cold to host the game. Instead the game was played in Langford, British Columbia.

Mexican side Pachuca won the FIFA Challenger Cup match on penalties in Qatar on Saturday by edging Egyptian side Al Ahly 6-5 after a dour goalless draw following extra time and will face Real Madrid in next week's Intercontinental Cup final.

Pachuca won the shootout after missing their first two penalties to become only the second Concacaf team to reach the final of the competition against European champions Real, which takes place at the Lusail Stadium on Wednesday.
