10 Things Only Arsenal Fans Will Understand

Arsenal. The official club of Bill Murray's Groundhog Day. The purveyors of tidy football and fiscal responsibility. For detractors of the club, read an obsession with spineless attacking midfielders and a stinginess bordering on madness.

Say what you like about the London club, but their track record speaks for itself. 13-time First Division/Premier League champions, 12-time FA Cup winners and holders of a remarkable streak of six straight eliminations in the Champions League round of 16 — this club has been there, done that and bottled it.

These are 10 things that all Arsenal fans know; 10 things that bring them joy and pain in equal measure.

The 2010-11 Champions League — when the round of 16 curse began for Arsenal, and what a farcical joke it was. Having defeated Barcelona 2-1 at the Emirates in the first leg, the stage was set for a massive encounter at the Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi scored the opener for Barca in first half stoppage time, but a Sergio Busquets own goal in the 53rd minute gave Arsenal the advantage. Three minutes later, Swiss referee Massimo Busacca ruined the match with one of the most outlandish calls you'll ever see.

He gave Robin van Persie a second yellow for 'time wasting' — Van Persie had no idea that the flag had gone up, and the ref's whistle was hardly audible in a rocking Camp Nou.
