Watch: USMNT U20 team blast Jamaica 9-0 in Concacaf U20 Championship opener

The United States U20 men’s national team opened the Concacaf Under-20 Championship with a massive result on Friday as they bested Jamaica 9-0.

America’s next wave of young talent strutted their stuff in their first group stage game as they obliterated the Reggae Boyz. Seven different U.S. players got on the scoresheet in the resounding victory.

Under-20 USMNT vs Jamaica 9-0 highlights

The future is bright as the U.S. look to defend their title at the Concacaf U20 Championship. The North American youth tournament is the second longest running event for Concacaf with the first edition being played in 1962.

This summer’s edition, hosted in Mexico, is the 30th iteration of the tournament. Prior to 2017, the USMNT had never won the tournament finishing as the runner-up six different times.

Fast forward to 2024 and the Stars and Stripes are seeking their fourth straight Concacaf U20 Championship title.

In the last edition (2022) the USMNT torched the competition outscoring their opponents 31-2 on their path to the title. The result from the last tournament also qualified them for the 2023 U20 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

This year the U.S. look to be on another destructive path after battering Jamaica 9-0. The other two teams in Group A are Costa Rica and Cuba who the USMNT are expected to beat.

If the U.S. make it to the semifinals of the tournament then they'll qualify for next summer's U20 World Cup in Chile.

Of the 21 players on the USMNT’s roster, 14 play for teams in Major League Soccer while six play abroad in Europe.

One player that fans are keeping an eye on is Nimfasha Berchimas. The Charlotte FC phenom is the youngest player in the squad at just 16 years old.

Berchimas burst onto the scene at the 2023 U17 World Cup as a 15-year-old when he scored three of the USA’s five goals in the group stage.

He came off the bench against Jamaica on Friday to score one and assist another.
