USA Fans Have Some Of The Worst Soccer Chants And Need Some New Ones For The World Cup

Some of the worst USA soccer chants are used far too often.

When the United States was paired with England in the 2022 World Cup draw, I knew there were going to be problems. With the shared language and historic rivalry on and off the field, there was bound to be beef. Fights on the internet broke out almost immediately between the two fan bases, with England fans pointing out Americans’ chants.

Call me a hater, a stick in the mud, an asshole, a knob-goblin or anything really, but that won’t change the fact that I hate some of the chants for the USMNT and MLS teams. They’re simply not good, creative or unique.

I still love a good “U-S-A” or “Everywhere we follow” chant, but some of the others are atrocious.

Here’s a list of the ones that I could go my whole life without hearing again.

Worst USA Soccer Chants

5. Iceland’s Viking Clap

This would have been cool if it were ours. Iceland looked badass doing their cultural and historic Viking clap at Euro 2016 and the last World Cup. Americans doing it just doesn’t hit the same. Can’t we be any more creative?

I will admit though, when the Viking clap intertwines with the “U-S-A” chant I am a supporter of that.

4. “You Can’t Do That!”

Shut the hell up. Am I back at a high school basketball game and someone just fouled out? Fun fact, the only video I could find of this chant is from a literal high school basketball game. This one gets under my skin for several reasons. It sounds stupid, it’s lame, it’s a chant mostly used at high school games and no shit he can’t do that. That’s why he got a yellow card. I hate this one.

3. Sporting KC’s “Barbecue” Chant

Kansas City has some incredible barbecue, but not so much so that you need to chant about it during a game. If USMNT fans sing this in Qatar, I’m going to mute my TV.

2. Seattle’s “Fight and Win” Chant

This chant is so bad it’s funny. I love watching this guy do the “Fight and Win” chant so much. I despise this war cry and so do the England fans. Maybe this one is so bad it’s good…

1 “I Believe That We Will Win”

This chant was cool eight years ago, but holy hell am I tired of hearing about it. I’m not saying much, but this chant gained popularity among U.S. fans at the 2014 World Cup and ever since then the USMNT hasn’t been back to the World Cup. Did you believe we were going to win against Trinidad in 2017? Did you??

This chant has run its course, and it’s time for something different.

I’m open to debate the new chants fans should do. If we want to go full American, we can look into college football traditions for ideas or other areas of U.S. culture. All I know is that the current ones need to go.
