New Zealand’s Chris Wood booked for signing autographs in stands during the game

New Zealand forward Chris Wood received one of the strangest yellow cards of the season when he was booked for signing autographs in the stands after scoring a hat-trick in his side's 7-0 defeat of Fiji in a World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Wood, who has enjoyed a superb season at Premier League club Nottingham Forest, was substituted to a standing ovation after his third goal in Wellington and headed straight to the stands to sign autographs and have his photo taken with fans.

A mix-up for the ages took place in Bulgaria as top flight club FC Arda held a moment of silence prior to their game on Sunday for former player Petko Ganchev. There was one tiny issue… Ganchev, 78, is still very much alive.

Before kickoff vs. Levski Sofia, players from both teams stood at midfield in silence as a tribute to Ganchev. The former Arda player was running errands at the time of his tribute, but when he got got home to watch the game his wife was in tears thinking he’d died.
