With registered youth soccer players in the United States growing from just over 100,000 in 1974 to over 3 million by 2014, the landscape of the sport has changed drastically over the last 40 years. As soccer has grown, tournament hosts have similarly had to adapt to greater numbers and greater competition while providing some of the best facilities and fields in the world.
Ah, finals...every student’s favorite time of the year, also known as hell week. It’s a time when all your teachers decide to test you on everything you may or may not have learned over the semester. A time when your stress increases and your sleep decreases.
Teachers expect you to put their class at the top of your priority list even though you have a million other things to do and worry about. But, we’ve all been there before, and in order to get to where we want to be, we must prove that we can succeed under pressure.
Playing a sport in high school is one of the best ways to make friends and get involved. Once the season rolls around, you are filled with excitement and enthusiasm. Every student athlete is ready to reunite with his or her team and prove to competitors and classmates that they are the team to beat this season. As the season goes on, each athlete comes to realize the struggle of being an athlete as well as a student.

On Friday, Arizona high school Faith Christian refused to play Foothills Academy College Prep unless Foothills agreed to bench female players Alyssa and Colette Hocking.
The Hocking sisters play on the boys' team because Foothills lacks enough players for a girls' team.
