Hector Herrera And Miguel Layun Showed Everyone How Teamwork Should Work

Hector Herrera and Miguel Layun are teammates at Porto. They are also teammates on the Mexico national team.

Layun joined Porto this season on loan from English Premier League club Watford, and he's been in fantastic form. He continued that form with an assist Wednesday. The goal scorer? Hector Herrera.

Herrera's goal came at a serendipitous time, as he was named Porto's Player of the Year only the day before. It's always nice when you can celebrate an award in style like that.

Layun is primarily deployed as a fullback (generally left, but he can play on the right in a pinch) or defensive midfielder and Herrera is a central midfielder, which made this goal combination all the more special, because it came between two players whose job descriptions don't focus primarily on attacking.

For Mexico, Layun has been in a positional dilemma, with new manager Juan Carlos Osorio having announced that Layun will compete with Paul Aguilar for the right back position, instead of playung at left back or defensive mid. Herrera, on the other hand, is situated fairly comfortably in central midfield with Andres Guardado.

Porto's Mexican trio, Herrera, Layun and winger Jesus "Tecatito" Corona, were all in good form Wednesday, as Tecatito had a goal in the 3-0 victory.
