This is one of the more unfortunate things we have ever seen and, trust us, we have seen a lot. Of all the soft red cards we have seen, this might just take the cake. After being subbed on during a restart after a goal, the poor chap in blue picked the wrong player to swing his arms in the general vicinity of:
The look on his face after he receives a red card and is sent off says it all. The sending off is so ridiculous that, really, there is no other reaction he could have had. He was thrown out of the game after 11 seconds - 11 SECONDS - and for what? Grazing the sternum of an opponent with his arm?
It is hard to judge what is more impressive: the rapidity of the sending off, or the way Mr. Premature Ejection (i.e., the ref) is absolutely had by one athlete-turned-actor.
Talk about taking advantage of an opportunity. The opposing player that took that dive should get an honorary degree from the Arjen Robben School of Acting. With a few more performances like that, they might just rename the school after him.
