‘It’s my last year at the club’ says Mohamed Salah with Liverpool contract nearing its end

Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah said in an interview on Friday that he’s playing in his final year at Anfield. The 32-year-old’s contract with the club ends at the end of the 2024-25 season and talks over a new contract have stalled in the past half year.

During an interview with Sky Sports, he doubled-down on the idea that this will be his final year with the club and that his goal is to win the Premier League in his last season.

Salah said that his goal at the beginning of each season has always been to win the Champions League, however this season he has set his sights on the league title. He explained why in the interview.

Salah last season at Liverpool

"It's probably because we didn't celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted,” Salah said.

“Also, it's my last year at the club so you want to do something special for the city. That was the thing in my head.

"We waited for that title for 30 years or so. So, to win it and it was the pandemic at that time, we didn't really have time to celebrate it in the right way. It's not a nice thing to do, so hopefully we can do it this year."

Liverpool’s league triumph five years ago came in front of empty stadiums at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Reds enter the 2025 calendar year with a six-point gap and a game in hand on Arsenal who sit in second.

Salah might not be the only star player departing at the end of the 2024-25 campaign as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will also be out of contract by the end of the season. Alexander-Arnold has been rumored and linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Time will tell if Salah is serious about leaving Liverpool or if Friday’s interview is simply part of the strategy to secure a new contract.

"Into the last six months, there is no progress (on a new contract),” Salah said. “We're far away from any progress, so we just need to wait and see."

Salah has recorded 20 goals and 17 assists through 26 games for Liverpool this season.
