Hector Herrera Has Been Named Porto's Player Of The Year

Hector Herrera had a pretty darn good 2014-2015 season for Portuguese club Porto.

His season was so good, in fact, that Herrera was named Porto's Player of the Year

Herrera joined Porto in 2015 from Liga MX side Pachuca for a reported $8.5 million, and has quickly become one of the club's key players. Just Wednesday he scored and wore the captain's armband for Porto.

Semi-related: Porto's player of the year award is called the "Dragao de Ouro," which translates to "golden dragon," which translates to the coolest name for an award that we have ever heard.

Despite his fine form last season, Herrera has seen his playing time lessened this year. His manager said this is due to Herrera not having had the last two summers off, instead playing in the 2014 World Cup and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the latter of which Mexico won.

In addition to Herrera, Porto feature two other Mexico National Team players, Jesus "Tecatito" Corona and Miguel Layun.

Porto currently sit in second place in the Premeira Liga, five points behind Sporting CP. They're also still alive in the Champions League, but need to win at Chelsea on the next match day in order to make sure they advance to the knock-out stage.

Herrera has been good for Mexico lately too, helping El Tri to World Cup qualifying wins against El Salvador and Honduras during the November international break. Mexico are undefeated in qualifying so far.
