Chicharito Says Goal-Scoring In Germany Is Due To One Thing Man United Didn't Give Him

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is having a career year since leaving Manchester United/Real Madrid for Bayer Leverkusen. The Mexican striker has 19 goals in 22 games so far this season, and has been named the Bundesliga player of the month twice, in November and December.

He thinks he's identified the reason for his good form this year, too. It turns out it's a lot harder to score goals when you're sitting on the bench, and a lot easier when you're actually on the field.

Hernandez told the Orlando Sentinel his goalscoring form is due to an uptick in playing time this year.

"What I was missing in the last two or three years, it was like I was playing sometimes and then returning to the bench," Chicharito said.

"But now that I am playing most of the game or almost all of my games here in my club, that's what I need.

"Because people sometimes think the confidence is with goals, but I don't think like that. I think confidence is to play day-by-day, to get rhythm.”

His teammates and coaches are certainly happy he's playing more. Chicharito is Leverkusen's leading goal-scorer by a wide margin.

If he can keep his goal-scoring form up up through the end of the season, Chicharito and Bayer Leverkusen will be sitting pretty.
