Borussia Dortmund Kept Two Goalkeepers On The Bench Against Sporting

The Borussia Dortmund-Sporting CP contest Tuesday was a very interesting match for a variety of reasons.

It was interesting because Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang threw a Sporting defender to the ground then chipped the keeper.

It was interesting because Julian Weigl scored the best possible first senior goal for Dortmund.

It was interesting because Marc Bartra passed the ball back to Roman Burki, who had no time to react and picked it up, leading to this:

And it was interesting because Dortmund incuded three keepers in their 18 for some reason.

We thought this was the most interesting part of the match, and that is because we are weird. We have never seen a team do this before, but perhaps we were just not paying that much attention.

Look, we knew Dortmund had injury problems. We didn't know said injury problems would result in them having to put on the bench, in place of a field player, their third-string goalkeeper, Hendrick Bonmann, who has never appeared for the senior side (they also handed 18-year-old defender Dzenis Burnic his senior debut against Sporting).

You gotta have three goalies sometimes, we guess. In case two break down.
