In an apparent ploy to spend the full $3.2 billion that Apple just spent to acquire them, Beats by Dre has just released a 5-minute-long, star-studded World Cup commercial that might just make your head explode.
But hey, 6 million+ people can't be wrong. That's how many views the new World Cup commercial has received thus far on YouTube. Posted on Thursday, the commercial's popularity has exploded as it has spread through social media. Which is exactly what Apple was hoping would happen to bring the electronics and music brand to the forefront during the world's biggest sporting event. Spend enough money on big names and big cinematic quality and you're bound to end up with a great commercial. We've got to applaud Beats and Apple, however, for creating a truly dramatic video heading into World Cup 2014. Although it's an ad for headphones, the commercial speaks to the universal appeal of the "beautiful game" and - we'll admit - raises the hairs on the back of your neck. So, hipsters be damned, we don't care if this commercial is a prime example of a massive company buying its way to popularity. It's worth a watch:
