Watch the first defender. He gets beat, falls down, thinks about getting up, then the enormity of what just happened hits him and he collapses and gives up on life. His buddy in the middle follows suit immediately after.
They look like victims in M. Night Shyamalan's 2008 thriller The Happening, in which plants get mad and start attacking the populace with neurotoxins. It is a truly awful movie. Mark Wahlburg is in it. Here's the trailer.
But back to those poor defenders. We're guessing both of them are still there. They didn't look like they'd be getting up any time soon.
