Brazil Turns Pain Into Philanthropy, Auctions Off Goal Net From Traumatic 7-1 Defeat To Germany

Every football fan remembers where they were when Brazil suffered humiliation at the hands of Germany during the last World Cup on their home turf. The 7-1 loss in the semifinals was undoubtedly one of the darkest days in the nation’s sporting history.

Now, it seems the 2014 hosts are trying to turn the sour, sour lemons they were given on that day into lemonade. The net that took a beating (specifically, the first five goals scored inside the first 30 minutes) at Mineirao Stadium will be chopped up and sold to raise money for Brazilian charities, sport and health programs and social institutions.

The pieces of net, about 8,000 of them, will be sold for a minimum of €71.

A potential Father’s Day gift that’s a HOLE lot better than a tie?
