After a former Russian double agent was poisoned in Britain, the resulting international uproar has led to (and included) Iceland boycotting the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Just the government, though. The team will still compete in the tournament. The Viking Clap cheer will presumably also travel to Russia.

Iceland's foreign minister commented on the boycott in a Tweet:
#Iceland stands in solidarity with #UK over #SalisburyAttack taking diplomatic measures against #Russia. High-level bilat dialogue w/Russia postponed resulting in Icelandic leaders not attending @FIFAWorldCup. We urge Russia to cooperate w/the investigation & @OPCW @ForeignOffice

Iceland's is the second diplomatic boycott of the World Cup that has been announced, after England, who the Icelandics will probably knock out of an international tournament for the second time in a row.
The U.S. is also boycotting the World Cup, the team and everything. We'll go with that.
