Andres Guardado Joins Real Betis, Ending Rumors Of A MLS Switch

30-year-old Mexico international Andres Guardado has transferred from PSV Eindhoven to Real Betis and signed a contract that’ll reportedly run until 2020, ending Los Angeles FC’s pursuit of the midfielder for their debut season in Major League Soccer.

Guardado only had a year left on his PSV contract, and the reported transfer fee is around €2 million. Guardado, who just represented Mexico at the Confederations Cup, remains a vital player for El Tri, and Betis sporting vice president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer believes that played a vital role in his decision to sign with the La Liga club.

“He’ll give us a lot,” said Serra in a press conference. “He is a great footballer with an impressive resume. He has chosen Betis as a base to play in his fourth World Cup, which tells you the magnitude and relevance of the player.”

Betis, along with Sevilla FC, is based in the Andalusian city of Seville. The club has a reputation as being somewhat tumultuous, but the 2017-18 season will mark their third straight in La Liga.

Along with talented veteran Ruben Castro, Betis possess one of Spain’s finest young midfielders in Dani Ceballos. Guardado is the club’s fourth signing this summer alongside Cristian Tello from Barcelona, Victor Camarasa from Levante and Sergio Leon from Osasuna.
