Barcelona’s Women’s Team Scores Its 100th Goal Of The Season After *Checks Notes* Only 20 Games

Barcelona’s women’s team continued its endless path of destruction on Saturday with a 4-0 defeat of Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona Femení hit a landmark number during the victory with the team’s 100th goal of the season after only 20 games. The Barcelona women goals fall like rain an overcast summer day in Oklahoma.

Jana Fernández scored the century goal in the 15th minute with a well-placed headed effort to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

Rayo Vallecano held off attacks for another 65 minutes before three late Barcelona goals from Melanie Serrano, Jennni Hermoso and Aitanna Bonmatí wrapped up affairs for the defending champions.

Hermoso also celebrated her 200th appearance with the club on Saturday.

Despite the Primera División having two less teams this season — meaning four less games — Barcelona is on track to score more goals than the 2020-21 campaign. In 34 games the Spanish giants scored 167 goals. This year they are on pace to net 169 averaging 5.6 goals per game. That’s some lethal finishing.

The 2021 Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas already has a double-digit goal tally on the season along with Asisatt Oshoala and Hermoso.

It’s doubtful that any team can stop the runaway Spanish train. It's also important to note the team has only conceded five goals across all competitions. The standard for Barcelona Femení is through the roof. The team’s postgame report on Saturday’s 4-0 victory described the performance as “a tough game.”

The closest game this season for Barcelona was a 3-1 victory against Real Madrid. The best competition Barcelona will find resides in the Champions League. The two French giants, PSG and Lyon, look to pose the greatest threat.

In the calendar year Barcelona has only lost four times: on penalties to Atlético Madrid in the Supercopa in January, a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in last season’s second leg of the UWCL quarterfinal (Barcelona won on aggregate), a 4-3 defeat to Atlético Madrid in June and a friendly loss to Lyon in the Women’s International Champions Cup.

It’s still mind-boggling that one of the hardest opponents for Barcelona in 2021 was the Houston Dash.

The next potential test will come in the Champions League quarterfinals. The draw for the quarterfinals is set to take place on Dec. 20 and Barcelona could play Juventus, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
