She Swung To Clear The Ball, And Ended The Game In Less Than 3 Minutes.

This…is unfortunate. I am absolutely sure that during the 5 minutes immediately after the following ordeal, defender Helen Eke probably wanted to crawl into the nearest small dark space and stay there until the laws of physics and the slow crawl of inevitability transported her to the other side of the planet.

That was Hammarby’s Eke making a case for the football equivalent of the Darwin Awards scoring on her own team. We can’t see her keepers face, but I imagine it was a picture of shock and disappointment so classic that only one gif in existence deserves to attempt to do it justice:

To make matters worse, that goal happened in the 3rd minute, and set the tone for an eventual 3-1 defeat for Hammarby against Orebo. Everyone wants to be a leader, but this is just about the worst possibly outcome of achieving that status that we have ever seen.

Is that too harsh? Yes.

Is it more harsh than that own goal was unexplainably bad? No.

Chin up, Helen. Time heals all.
