MLS Supporters Are Turning Into Soccer Hooligans

In a classic derby match where rivalry and home pride is all that matters, there is no telling what fans will do to help give their club any extra boost to win the match. New York is new to the whole derby experience, but that doesn’t mean they are short of energy and passion.

The New York Red Bulls hosted NYCFC in their third meeting ever since the new club located in the Bronx came into existence this season. Red Bull fans let the traveling support know exactly how important this rivalry will be for years to come. The violence and banter was in full swing just as you would imagine in a Manchester or Merseyside clash.

In this hilarious banner displayed before the match, you have to admit, the MLS is on its way to become a well known league with as much hype Europe gets every weekend. But is this real hatred between two clubs in close proximity, or is it a monkey see, monkey do scenario?

Judging from the video above, Americans may have adopted too much European football culture. Who knows, within a couple years we could see New York fans split down the road by police in a similar way Chelsea and Arsenal fans walk to Wembley stadium for important matches.
