Andres Guardado Given Welcome Fit For A Hero

Andrés Guardado has played a big part in building PSV Eindhoven's current 8 point lead at the top of the Eredivisie, and it seems he has now been duly rewarded. The club has given him a new 3-year contract, and the fans at the Philips Stadion gave him a welcome fit for a returning war hero.

Andrés seems understandably very happy during his interview. I wish I knew more Spanish than I do so I could expound more on that point, but all I could take away from it was the occasional “bueno,” “muy bonito,” and “estoy muy feliz aqui.”

Nevertheless, the happiness surrounding the news of the extension seems to come from all sides: Guardado is happy, the fans are happy, and the club is obviously happy, or else they wouldn’t have offered him a three year contract.

The future is looking bright for the Eredivisie. If PSV can retain a foreign-born player, especially one who comes from a culture that is quite different than that of the Dutch, then they have shown that they can keep their best players, regardless of where they come from. And if a world-class club needs to be able to do one thing, it is keep its best players.
