Taunted by the Kop with chants of "getting sacked in the morning", Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola afforded himself a wry smile and held up six fingers to remind the ecstatic Liverpool fans of how many Premier League titles he has won.

FIFA is showing their appreciation for Messi on Thanksgiving.

Lionel Messi made headlines on Thanksgiving Day after making the nominee list for FIFA’s The Best Award, honoring the players with the best individual performances in the past year.

The 37-year-old made the list as the only player currently outside of Europe, with the rest of the nominees playing inside of Europe’s top-five leagues. Toni Kroos (who retired at the end of the 2024 European Championship) is the only exception.

But huge defensive blunders in the dying minutes saw them lose their advantage and fall to 15th in the Champions League table on eight points.

The Egypt striker, whose deal expires at the end of the season, scored twice as Liverpool came back to beat Southampton 3-2 away on Sunday to open up an eight-point gap at the top of the standings.

Aston Villa lose to Club Brugge after Tyrone Mings picks up ball in own box during freak incident

Aston Villa conceded a bizarre penalty in a 1-0 loss at Club Brugge on Wednesday which ended their perfect start to the Champions League group stage.

What had been a lethargic performance for Villa turned absurd in the 52nd minute when Tyrone Mings inexplicably picked up the ball, believing it was not in play.

Villa keeper Emi Martinez had just lined up a goal kick, sending a short pass to Mings, who then picked up the ball and gave it back to the Argentinian. The referee pointed to the penalty spot, and Hans Vanaken converted.

Andoni Iraola's side climbed to eighth on 15 points with their first victory over City in the club's history.

Manchester United’s new boss Rúben Amorim set to join team at end of month

MANCHESTER — Manchester United's new head coach Ruben Amorim will be welcomed as a breath of fresh air for a much-needed reset when he arrives at Old Trafford later this month to sort out a team mired in mediocrity and struggling in the Premier and Europa League.

Amorim must hit the ground running in one of the most scrutinized jobs in football that saw Erik ten Hag fired on Monday — the latest of five permanent managers who have wilted in the shadow of United's most successful boss Alex Ferguson.
