Alejandro Zendejas has made an official decision. Despite attempts from the Mexico national team to lure him to their program, the Club América winger announced on social media Tuesday that his future belongs to the USMNT.
And the USMNT welcomed his commitment.
How many Concacaf teams? FIFA reveals confederations slots for the 2025 Club World Cup
FIFA had a council meeting on Tuesday in which they mostly talked about money and patted their own backs, saying they are the best organization in the universe since the Big Bang. But, hey! They also talked about soccer, revealing the number of teams representing each confederation in the revamped Club World Cup to be played in 2025.
If you were living inside a bubble, FIFA announced last year their plan to expand the Club World Cup from seven to 32 teams starting in 2025.
2025 Gold Cup rumored to be 24-team tournament with countries from UEFA, CONMEBOL and more
The United States, Mexico and Canada are looking to prepare themselves in the best ways possible ahead of their hosting of the 2026 World Cup and Concacaf is reportedly willing to do anything to get their teams get as much competitive sparring as they can.
Even if it means turning their biennial Gold Cup tournament into a mini-World Cup.
Has the USMNT finally found its No. 9 in Brandon Vázquez?
Amid the off-field chaos and turmoil within the United States men’s national team, some questions have remained on the pitch. The U.S. is dripping with talent in almost every position, but one spot has remained untethered. The No. 9 has long been a giant, flailing red flag alongside world beaters like Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Matt Turner. But after years of experimentation with different systems and players, there's finally a chance that the trial and error period is over.
All signs point to a new USMNT manager, but it's going to be a very long process
The future of the USMNT took another dramatic twist Thursday morning with a press release from U.S. Soccer confirming that sporting director Earnie Stewart — currently overseeing the search for the team's next full-time coach — is leaving his role next month to return to the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.
With this closely following the ongoing review of Gregg Berhalter and the departure of Brian McBride as general manager, there are two ways of viewing the current state of the men's program: either it's in shambles or it's a clean slate moving forward.
How to watch the USMNT throughout 2023 (it's complicated)
2023 marked the beginning of a new era for U.S. Soccer with broadcast coverage of every USMNT and USWNT friendly being provided by Turner Sports. This has opened the door to live sports on HBO Max, although certain competitions remain reserved for Fox Sports and Paramount Global.
It follows that the 2023 USMNT TV schedule is all over the place. Despite having just played in a World Cup, the U.S. has a busy calendar year with four windows for friendlies, the completion of the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League and the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
