Marcus Rashford now has equal the number of goals vs. EPL clubs as Manchester United

Marcus Rashford’s renaissance performance for Barcelona vs. Newcastle on Thursday stunned fans and has continued to raise eyebrows due to the statistics that followed.

Rashford bagged a beautiful brace for Barcelona with a precise header and then a GOLAZO from distance.

One statistic that went viral with fans was that Rashford — who is on loan with Barcelona from Manchester United — has equal the number of goals against Premier League opponents as United players.

As of Sept. 19, Bryan Mbuemo and Bruno Fernandes are the only two players who have scored against Premier League opponents for Manchester United this season. The rest of United’s goals were own goals scored by the opposition.

There were several other interesting stats from Rashford’s performance that are worth sharing.

  • Rashford is the first English player to score for Barcelona in the Champions League since Gary Lineker in 1989. (That’s 36 YEARS!)
  • This was Rashford’s first time scoring in the Champions League since Oct. 20, 2021
  • Rashford now has 10 goal contributions (seven goals, three assists) against Newcastle in his 12 starts against the Magpies

Needless to say, Rashford’s double for Barcelona was historic in a number of ways.

Manchester United’s next opponent will be Chelsea in a Premier League clash on Saturday.

Funny enough, the next EPL opponent that Rashford will face is also Chelsea as Barcelona will play the Blues in the Champions League on Nov. 25.
