The 2023 National Women's Soccer League campaign kicks off next weekend (Saturday, Mar. 25) as the league begins its 11th season of play.
For the first time in history the National Women’s Soccer League will be available on EA Sports’ FIFA video game.
On Wednesday, March 15, FIFA 23 will add the NWSL to the game. EA Sports gave fans a little teaser Friday by releasing the statistics for each player.
If you’re curious about the highest rated NWSL players on FIFA, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are the top 10.
1 Alex Morgan 90 (San Diego Wave)
2. Debinha 88 (Kansas City Current)
3. Sophia Smith 87 (Portland Thorns)
The Utah Royals are returning to the National Women's Soccer League in 2024 with a group of new investors.
The Royals were in the NWSL from 2018-20 before folding and relocating to Kansas City in December 2020 after former owner Dell Loy Hansen was ousted following reports of racist behavior and a toxic culture with the Royals and MLS club Real Salt Lake.
Alyssa Thompson made history in January when she was the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NWSL draft and the first player ever drafted out of high school. The 18-year-old phenom has already appeared for the USWNT and played her first game for Angel City on Wednesday night.
Angel City defeated Club América 3-0 at BMO Stadium in a club friendly. Thompson was given her first start and immediately made an impact just five minutes into the game.
International Women’s Day was on Wednesday and the world celebrated by recognizing loved ones and highlighting the accomplishments of extraordinary women. Manchester City and Norweigian star Erling Haaland had a much different and interesting way to celebrate women on Wednesday.
There were several different routes Haaland could have chosen. Perhaps he wanted to thank his mom for everything she’s done for him and celebrate her career as a Norwegian heptathlon champion.
High school sophomore Chloe Ricketts became the youngest player in the National Women’s Soccer League history on Thursday when she signed with the Washington Spirit. Ricketts signed a three-year contract with an option to extend for a fourth year in 2026.
The record for youngest NWSL player was previously held by Olivia Moultrie who signed with the Portland Thorns when she was 15 years and 286 days old. At the time of Ricketts’ signing, she was 15 years and 283 days old.
It didn't make much sense when EA Sports announced that women's club soccer was coming to FIFA 23 before launching with only the Women's Super League (England) and Division 1 Féminine (France) while omitting the National Women's Soccer League, but that's reportedly about to be remedied with a free March update ahead of the league's new season.
Sydney Leroux has a history of going after trolls on the internet. Whether she’s making fun of former high school soccer boys on Instagram or responding directly to haters, she doesn’t let much slide.
LOS ANGELES — Angel City FC on Thursday selected 18-year-old Alyssa Thompson with the first pick of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) draft, making the Los Angeles native the first player in league history drafted directly out of high school.
"Alyssa Thompson, for us, is a phenom and generational player," said Angel City general manager Angela Hucles Mangano.
"She's a player who can make an immediate impact, but she's also young and can develop and look to be a player that we're building a future off of, too."
