Former Barcelona star Dani Alves’ rape conviction overturned

MADRID — The top court in Spain's Catalonia region on Friday overturned Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves' rape conviction, saying the case against him had inconsistencies and contradictions.

The 41-year-old defender was convicted last year of raping a woman in the restroom of a Barcelona nightclub in 2022 and sentenced to 4-1/2 years in prison.

Four Real Madrid players could be in trouble after UEFA announced that an ethics and disciplinary investigation is being launched for the club’s celebrations against Atlético Madrid during their Champions League Round of 16 victory.

Kylian Mbappé, Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Ceballos and Vinícius Jr. were the quartet of Madrid players that UEFA named. The investigation will be for “indecent conduct.”

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL during Sunday’s Concacaf Nations League third-place match vs. the United States. The Canadian’s personal team has pointed the blame at national team coach Jesse Marsch.

Nedal Huoseh, Davies’ agent, put out a scathing statement directed at Marsch claiming the American coach pressured Davies into playing the third-place game despite not being fully fit.

A video of Kylian Mbappé picking up car that delivers the game ball went viral after the little delivery mobile broke down near midfield.

Prior to France’s UEFA Nations League quarterfinal clash against Croatia on Sunday, a little Volkswagen remote controlled car arrived at midfield with the ball. Mbappé picked up the ball and then would have to pick up the car because it appeared to be out of gas… or battery.

Panama striker Cecilio Waterman gave his side an iconic moment in the 94th minute when his low strike proved to be the winning goal. Waterman, who came on as a sub in the 70th minute, jumped the advertisement board and ran straight to French legend Henry.
