Battered, bruised and bloodied, Jan Vertonghen was splayed out on the turf.

The Spurs defender smashed his own head into the back of teammate Toby Alderweireld’s head going for a free kick, causing a faucet of blood to spew forth. 

It was gruesome, and it summed up Tottenham’s opening half against Ajax.

During Monday’s Premier League matchup with Burnley, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi was subbed off after an apparent foot injury in the first half. The 18-year-old phenom had to be helped off the field in the 42nd minute and was replaced by Pedro. Chelsea went on to draw 2-2 with Burnley as both teams went scoreless in the second half after a frantic opening 45 minutes.

After the game, Chelsea fans' worst fears were confirmed as the attacker said his Achilles was ruptured in a tweet.

Ronaldo Suffers Hamstring Injury And Misses Portugal Wonder Goal

With just over two weeks to go until Juventus travels to Amsterdam to play Ajax in the first leg of its Champions League quarterfinal matchup, Cristiano Ronaldo has been forced off injured with an apparent hamstring injury while on international duty.

In the 31st minute of today’s Euro 2020 qualifier between Portugal and Serbia at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Ronaldo went sprinting after a ball on the left wing before pulling up and immediately signaling for a substitution.

Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina, who’s at the club on a one-year loan deal from Arsenal, had to be rushed to the hospital after collapsing during today’s Serie A match against Udinese. 

The 30-year-old Colombian was injured in the fifth minute after a low cross into the Napoli box resulted in a collision between Ospina and Ignacio Pussetto.

Brazilian striker Anderson Lopes played his first match for Consadole Sapporo in the J1 League on Friday, and the attacker came away with four goals and an important lesson in the layout of his club’s home ground, the Sapporo Dome.

With Consadole leading Shimizu S-Pulse 2-1 in the 49th minute, Anderson Lopes scored his second of the match and promptly went to celebrate with supporters behind the goal. Unfortunately, his jump over the advertising hoardings was quickly met with the realization that he faced a 10-foot drop to the hard ground below.

During a match between Altos and River in Brazil’s Campeonato Piauiense, the league of the state of Piauí, Altos’ Humberto was clocked by River’s Biro Biro with a high boot to the face.

Thankfully, medical tests ruled out a fracture, but Humberto did suffer a concussion and is still under observation following Sunday’s incident. The Brazilian midfielder says he has no recollection of the event itself, but he returned to the pitch after the match looking like Quasimodo.

Manchester United and Liverpool played to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday with the main talking point being the four first half injury substitutions (three for United, one for Liverpool) that drastically altered the shape of the game.

In the grand scheme of things, the draw sees Liverpool return to the top of the Premier League table with a one-point lead over Manchester City. After Arsenal’s victory over Southampton, the Gunners have overtaken the Red Devils in fourth by a single point.
