Processions across the Midwest came to a rest at Wisconsin’s most hallowed ground on Saturday night. Fans of Germany’s Bayern Munich and England’s Manchester City packed into Lambeau Field to watch the first-ever soccer match played at the home of the Green Bay Packers.

As thousands of spectators arrived, streams of fans in sky blue and bright red paraded through the small town with the behemoth that is Lambeau Field lying in their sights. For many who see soccer as their religion, this was about to be their evening service. 

The prognosis for Alexandre Lacazette was bleak. After suffering 10 wasp stings in a Dutch forest ahead of Lyon's friendly against Feyenoord on Sunday, the former Arsenal striker was sure to miss the match as he iced, applied hydrocortisone cream and took some Tylenol.

History was made on Saturday when Lambeau Field hosted its first ever soccer game. Manchester City defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the home of the Green Bay Packers in what turned out to be a wild, wet and short affair.

The game was only two 40-minute halves long with a five-minute halftime.

The first Erling Haaland Manchester City goal came in 12 minutes. The Norwegian superstar made his debut for his new club during a friendly at Lambeau Field vs. Bayern Munich.

The crowd would make plenty of extra noise anytime he was on the ball and the over 81,000 fans in attendance collectively lost it when he scored the opener.

This Saturday, hallowed Lambeau Field plays host to an exhibition match between Premier League champion Manchester City and Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich. This will be the first-ever professional soccer match held at Lambeau, and for good reason: The field isn’t big enough.

Wednesday night, Minnesota United welcomed Everton for a friendly match at Allianz Field in St. Paul. The English side was getting ready to begin its season while taking on a Minnesota team halfway through its MLS campaign. 

Jordan Pickford, Dominick Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies featured for Everton along with a host of other traditional starters. Minnesota only made one change from its weekend lineup against DC United — signalling an attempt to make a statement as they took on a side that finished just four points from relegation last year. 

A big crowd at Bank of America Stadium got to watch its beloved Charlotte FC battle to a memorable 1-1 result with Chelsea on Wednesday night before triumphing in a shootout. Charlotte fell behind to a fortuitous Christian Pulisic goal in the 30th minute but wildly equalized from the penalty spot with virtually the last kick of the 90 minutes.
