Major League Soccer is a top ten league in the world, according to Opta

MLS is the real deal, folks.

Major League Soccer has solidified its position among the world’s top-tier soccer leagues, now ranked as the ninth-best league globally, according to Opta Analyst.

MLS ranked as ninth-best league in the world, over EFL Championship and Eredivisie

This milestone places MLS above renowned leagues like the English Championship and the Dutch Eredivisie — two leagues in Europe with long histories of having top soccer talents.

WTF! Josh Sargent heads in game-tying goal while squirrel runs on field

The headline of this story might be one of the more unique ones I’ve written in my five years with The18. An American striker scored a key goal at the same time a squirrel was invading the pitch.

Sargent’s squirrely goal took place during Norwich City’s 1-1 draw against Hull City on Saturday in the EFL Championship. In the 47th minute Norwich left back Kellen Fisher was running stride for stride with a furry rodent on the near sideline.

Despite the excellent run made by Hammy from “Over the Hedge” Fisher elected to swing the ball into the box toward Sargent.

Atlanta United break incoming MLS transfer record for Ivory Coast striker Emmanuel Latte Lath

Atlanta United announced the splash signing of speedy Ivory Coast striker Emmanuel Latte Lath on Tuesday.

Atlanta reportedly paid an MLS-record $22 million transfer fee to English second-tier side Middlesbrough FC, breaking the mark of $16.2 million that FC Cincinnati spent in November to acquire forward Kevin Denkey from Belgium's Cercle Brugge.

FA charges Preston player after he pulls a Luis Suárez and bites opponent’s neck

Preston North End forward Milutin Osmajic has been charged with allegedly biting Blackburn Rovers defender Owen Beck on the neck during their second-tier Championship draw on Sunday, the Football Association (FA) said on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the players clashed after defender Beck, on loan from Liverpool, was sent off for kicking out at Preston's Duane Holmes late in their goalless draw.

The incident led to a confrontation between the two sides and Osmajic was seen getting close to Beck's neck, with the 25-year-old receiving a yellow card.

Watch: Brenden Aaronson scores late equalizer then misses golden chance to win the game

United States men’s national team and Leeds United forward Brenden Aaronson had himself a day in the EFL Championship opening weekend on Saturday. The American scored a 95th minute equalizer to draw Leeds level at 3-3 with Portsmouth.

Unfortunately for Aaronson he’ll likely remember the game more for the wasted opportunity to win the game that came moments later.

Aaronson was brought on as a substitute in the 72nd minute with the score tied at 2-2. It looked like the opening game would end in disaster for Leeds when Portsmouth scored in the 92nd minute to take the lead.

Southampton fan hilariously celebrates with prosthetic leg during EFL playoff win

Southampton are one win away from securing promotion back to the Premier League and their fans are loving it. One Southampton fan leg celebration has gone viral.

You might read “Southampton fan leg celebration” and wonder if we’re referring to him doing a dance with his leg, the stanky leg perhaps. No, we mean a Southampton fan was spotted in the crowd celebrating a goal with an actual prosthetic leg.

The person in charge of Southampton’s social media couldn’t have selected a more perfect caption.

Bill Belichick roasts Birmingham City and part owner Tom Brady after getting relegated

If you would have told us 10 years ago that New England Patriots’ legendary head coach Bill Belichick would be discussing relegation and Birmingham City, we would’ve called you crazy.

Fast forward to present day and that’s exactly where we are. During Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady”, soon-to-be League One club Birmingham City were one of the many victims of the roasting spree.

Watch: Ipswich Town fans go wild after securing first promotion to Premier League in 22 years

IPSWICH — Ipswich Town ended a 22-year exile from the Premier League when the second-tier Championship club secured a return to the top flight with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, denying Leeds United the second automatic promotion spot.

Ipswich needed a point to confirm promotion going into the final day of the season as Kieran McKenna's side became the first club since Southampton in 2012 to gain back-to-back promotions from third-tier League one to the Premier League.
