Promotion and relegation is officially coming to American soccer in 2028

Promotion and relegation is really happening. The United Soccer League (USL) announced on Wednesday it will be implementing a relegation system featuring three tiers by 2028 after a supermajority of club owners voted yes on the idea. 

This system won’t include Major League Soccer which has historically been opposed to the idea.

"Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world's greatest football stadium, at the center of a regenerated Old Trafford," United's co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said in a statement.

Serie A seeks to win the race of becoming the first top European league to play league games in the United States. Serie A president Ezio Simonelli said on Tuesday that the league wants to play overseas soon.

Serie A and LaLiga have been the two elite leagues leading the charge of hosting matches in the U.S. Last year it was rumored that Barcelona and Atlético Madrid would play in Miami, however the idea fell through.

‘Most reckless challenge I’ve ever seen’ says Crystal Palace chairman on horror Mateta tackle

Crystal Palace ace Jean-Philippe Mateta was removed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital during his side’s FA Cup match vs. Millwall on Saturday after being the victim of a horror tackle.

Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish gave an interview at halftime and called the tackle Mateta suffered, “the most reckless challenge on a football pitch I think I’ve ever seen.”

Brady provided color commentary for Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints game and then flew across the pond to be present for the Birmingham vs. Wrexham contest on Monday.

While Brady has been given a warm welcome to the broadcast booth for NFL games, he was jeered heavily by the traveling Wrexham faithful at St. Andrew’s.

Wrexham fans could be heard yelling “who the f*cking hell are you?” as Brady made his way around the grounds.

Chelsea have been busy in the market since American owner Todd Boehly took over two years ago.

San Diego Wave FC President Jill Ellis filed a defamation suit on Monday against a former team employee who accused Ellis on social media of creating a harsh work environment.

Brittany Alvarado, previously a video and creative manager for the Wave, wrote in a July 3 social media post that the treatment she and her co-workers endured under Ellis "has been nothing short of life-altering and devastating to our mental health."

NWSL has company: U.S. Soccer gives new USL Women’s Super League Division 1 status

The NWSL is no longer the only Division 1 women’s soccer league in the United States as U.S. Soccer announced on Friday that the new USL Super League has been granted top flight status.

The USL Super League will kick off in 2024 with eight teams and already has plans for more cities to join in 2025.

U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone congratulated the new league on their status and said it will create more opportunities for women’s players in the U.S.
