Cristiano Ronaldo To PSG Rumors Heating Up After Champions League Debacle

Only on FIFA Ultimate Team could someone imagine having Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Cristiano Ronaldo as a striking trio. That deadly, goal-scoring nightmare isn’t entirely out of the question as rumors of a Ronaldo PSG transfer are gaining traction following Juventus’ unexpected exit from the Champions League.

Foot Mercato, a French media outlet, reported that Ronaldo is considering his future at Juventus and is interested in joining the Parisian giants. Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent, is reportedly meeting with PSG sporting director Leonardo in the near future.

A move away from Juventus doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Even at the age of 35 Ronaldo recorded ridiculous stats, including 31 goals in 33 league appearances. The Portuguese star is always seeking silverware — back-to-back Champions League exits to the likes of Ajax and Lyon aren’t going to sit well with Mr. CR7.

Along with an embarrassing past two Champions League seasons, the future for Juventus is filled with uncertainty. The Italian club dismissed Maurizio Sarri and has now put the fate of the club in the hands of former player Andrea Pirlo. Mind you, Pirlo enrolled for his UEFA Pro License in 2019 and had only managed the Juventus U-23 side for nine days before being called up to take Sarri’s place.

With little-to-no managerial experience, it would be a miracle for Pirlo to win the Champions League in his first season.

With time working against Ronaldo, another season with Juve doesn’t seem to promise the Champions League glory that he hasn’t tasted since 2018.

PSG’s large pocketbook only adds to the growing fire of the rumor. It takes a special club with copious amounts of money to hold the title for the two most expensive transfers in the sport’s history.

The nine-time Ligue 1 champions will have money available after the departures of Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva. These two longtime PSG players received the club’s highest weekly wages behind Neymar and Mbappé. With Cavani and Silva leaving, money won’t be an issue for bringing in Ronaldo.

A strike force of Neymar, Mbappé and Ronaldo would rival — if not trump — the iconic trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar during Barcelona’s 2014-2017 glory days. PSG would undoubtedly win the Ligue 1 title with a strike force that lethal, and Ronaldo would then become the only player in history with league titles from England, Spain, Italy and France’s top-flights. Take that Danilo.
