David Beckham Believes He Could Still Play In MLS

David Beckham will grace the cover of the April edition of GQ, and revealed in an interview with Michael Paterniti that he believes he could still cut it in Major League Soccer.

The 40-year-old former Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and LA Galaxy legend also gave a glimpse into his home life. “I get physically ill when I have to leave the kids now,” he said. For would-be supporters of the future Miami MLS team, headed by the ownership group known as Miami Beckham United, this should come as slightly disconcerting news.

While Beckham now resides in London, he revealed that the temptation to play professional football is ever-present. “I miss soccer every day. I don’t know whether it’s the athlete in me, or the passion I have for the game: I always think that I can step back on the field and play,” Beckham revealed. “You know, maybe I could play another year in the U.S. if I was still living in L.A., I’d probably really seriously think about coming back for a year.”

Although Beckham’s photo shoot revealed the former England star stepping into his local pub for a pint and munching on some fish and chips takeout, Beckham probably isn’t too far-off in his beliefs. He couldn’t be much further off the pace than Steven Gerrard was in his initial season with Los Angeles.

The Miami team is slated to join MLS in time for the 2018 season. Could we see a 42-year-old Beckham lace up his boots one last time? The addition of having represented the expansion club “Miami Vice” would fit nicely alongside the rest of his resume.
