The greatest African women’s soccer player is coming to play in the NWSL. Six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala will join new expansion side Bay FC for the 2024 season.
Oshoala has spent the last five years with the mighty Barcelona Femení where she’s been unstoppable. In her time with Barcelona she won 14 trophies and scored 117 goals in 162 appearances. She became the first African women’s player to win the UEFA Champions League.

The 29-year-old forward has signed a contract with Bay FC through 2026 with the option to extend for a year. The fee for Oshoala was undisclosed and rumored to be in the ballpark of $160,000.
Bay FC’s general manager Lucy Rushton said in a club statement that Oshoala brings a mentality needed at the new club.
“She brings a top-class mentality to the field combined with pace and technical ability that allows her to lead the line, while also giving those players around her the license to be creative and thrive in space,” Rushton said.
Oshoala spoke with media after the announcement of her signing and shared her goals and expectations for Bay FC’s first season.

The expansion team’s NWSL season will begin on March 16 with a trip to Los Angeles to face Angel City FC.
