The USA Can Beat Argentina. They've Done It Before

Sometimes the stars align and things just go as they are supposed to. Sometimes heart wins over skills and fighting like a lion pays off against precise footwork.

This was the case during the last group stage match between the United States and Argentina in a warm Uruguayan night back in 1995. The Albiceleste lined up the likes of Gabriel Batitusta and featured Diego Simeone off the bench.

The United States, on the other hand, were fairly new to all this international soccer competition thing. The 1994 World Cup awakened the interest of the country, but the team itself was looked down on and undervalued by the giants of football. Like Argentina.

But soccer is soccer, and as the ball is round it can end up rolling anywhere. That night, it ended up rolling into Argentina’s goal. Three times.

Eleven years ago, the United States made a global statement. Underestimating the Americans on the soccer field can prove a costly mistake.
