Suspecting The Ref Of Match Fixing, These Players Took Matters Into Their Own Hands

Match fixing has rocked international soccer to a disturbing degree. The 2006 Italian football scandal will forever remain a dark mark on the histories of clubs like Juventus and Fiorentina, among others. Portugal, Germany and Brazil have also had their league's sporting integrity compromised by corrupt referees.

However, it’s often in the lower leagues that match fixing is most prevalent and able to fly under the radar. A friendly between Romanian side Astra Giurgiu and Poland’s Pogon Szczecin must’ve looked like the perfect scenario to not-so-subtly influence the outcome of the match for this official. It’s only a friendly and nobody really cares, right?

The referee dubiously pointed to the spot on three occasions, and the players responded by intentionally missing all of them. Sportsmanship 1 — Gamesmanship 0.
