Peruvian Club Attempts A Messi-Suarez Penalty Pass But Fails Spectacularly

Barcelona just make it all look so easy. When Lionel Messi elected to pass when taking a penalty shot last February, Luis Suarez easily capped off the audacious ploy as Barcelona destroyed Celta Vigo. It looked so simple, and everyone around the world wondered why that’s not done more often.

The answer is because we’re not all Barcelona. Case in point, a team in Peru attempted to duplicate the routine but failed spectacularly this weekend. Alianza Atletico were hosting Sport Huancayo, and, with the scores level at 0-0, they thought it was the ideal moment to attempt this piece of trickery.

Even worse for Alianza is the fact that the match would end in a 0-0 draw. This moment of genius ended up costing the side three points.

My favorite part is how the player is forced to chase the ball down after hitting the post, only to eventually play it out for a goal kick. It’s just all-around brilliance.
