Chucky Lozano Outlines His Ambition To Move To Europe This Summer

Pachuca and Mexican international Hirving “Chucky” Lozano has signaled his intention to further his career in Europe.

21-year-old Pachuca and Mexican international Hirving “Chucky” Lozano has long been a subject of interest for European clubs. The winger has already appeared in over 100 Liga MX matches for his club, and he’s become a regular for El Tri.

Lozano’s form in the 2016 Apertura season, during which he scored seven goals and helped Pachuca finish in second during the regular season, saw him linked with Benfica, Ajax and PSV during the January transfer window.

However, Pachuca president Jesus Martinez revealed to Nacion ESPN that selling Lozano was never a possibility during the winter window. “We though it wasn’t the time,” Martinez said. “We didn’t think, with full respect and without undervaluing, that the Netherlands or Portugal were where we believe he can reach his potential.”

Lozano’s form for Pachuca during the 2017 Clausura has dipped, apart from opening the campaign with a resounding hat trick against Leon. He’s just recently returned after a month on the sideline due to an ankle injury, and his immediate focus will be on tonight’s CONCACAF Champions League semifinal with FC Dallas.

However, Lozano acknowledges that the time may be right this summer to look for a new challenge to develop his game. “I feel good, ready and prepared to get better and to play in a more competitive [league],” he told Nacion ESPN. “People have told me that I have the possibility of going to play in a better, stronger league and hopefully I can improve my football.”

Martinez has confirmed that La Liga would be the perfect environment for Lozano, and that the club’s sporting partnership with Celta Vigo makes them an ideal destination for the club’s young star.

“They are one of the teams that most attracts us,” he said. “There are a lot of other teams, he has a lot of offers and I believe that [Celta] are a team who suit us as much as the player…It would be an ideal club for him.”

Lozano will be hoping to lead Pachuca to success in both the CCL and Clausura, but it looks a certainty that his future will be in Europe after that.
