EA Sports Announce FIFA 17 Cover Athlete After Global Vote

After announcing that Lionel Messi would no longer grace the cover of EA Sports’ FIFA franchise, a global vote was conducted to determine the FIFA 17 cover and the new face of the game.

3.1 million votes were cast to decide between Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.

In the end, Dortmund’s Marco Reus collected the majority of the vote, ensuring that it’d be his face on the cover of FIFA 17.

The 27-year-old German international helped Dortmund to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga last season. He scored 23 goals in 43 appearances for Dortmund, including a spectacular 9 from 13 Champions League matches.

Reus has played for Dortmund for four seasons now after spending three with Borussia Monchengladbach. While Reus has collected 29 caps for Germany, he’s been massively unlucky with injuries.

He was forced to withdraw from Germany’s 2014 World Cup squad after suffering an ankle injury in a warmup match. He was not selected for Euro 2016 because of injury as well, suffering a groin injury before the tournament.
