Three days before the Costa Rica friendly will be a game against Mexico at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. These two games will only feature players from the to be announced USWNT Olympic roster.
Both games will see Emma Hayes as the USWNT head coach who is currently finishing her final season with Chelsea. Hayes will have two friendlies before selecting the Olympic roster and then two friendlies with that squad.
USWNT summer schedule
- May 27: First USWNT training camp with Emma Hayes
- June 1: Friendly vs. South Korea (Commerce City, Colorado)
- June 4: Friendly vs. South Korea (Saint Paul, Minnesota)
- Late June/Early July: USWNT Olympic roster announcement
- July 13: Friendly vs. Mexico (Harrison, New Jersey)
- July 16: Friendly vs. Costa Rica (Washington D.C.)
The USWNT have faced Costa Rica 17 times before, winning every game. An easier opponent will hopefully lower the chances of injuries to players and help boost confidence heading into the Olympics.
The Summer Games in Paris will be a chance for the USWNT to remind the world they’re still the best in the world despite the disappointment at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
