Chapecoense Goalkeeper Nivaldo Announces Retirement After Plane Crash

Just one league appearance short of 300 for Chapecoense, 42-year-old Nivaldo has announced his retirement following the team's tragic plane crash in Colombia.

Following the tragic plane crash that killed 19 Chapecoense players, 42-year-old goalkeeper Nivaldo, who was left off the Brazilian club's trip to the Copa Sudamerica final in Colombia, has announced his retirement from football.

Nivaldo was left behind so he could make his 300th league appearance for Chapecoense at home against Atletico Mineiro.

Instead, Nivaldo has announced his retirement, and will stay at 299 club apearances.

The plane carrying Nivaldo's Chapecoense teammates went down in the mountains outside Medellin, Colombia Monday night, killing 71.
