This Spain own goal vs Croatia is going to go down as the craziest mistake of Euro 2020.
Spain had their metaphorical hand snatched on Croatia’s scruff for the opening 20 minutes of Monday’s Round of 16 clash. Sitting in almost total control, the only worry for Spain was a Croatia counterattack. Or so they thought.
If someone watching the game looked away for a split-second, they would have missed this unbelievable error from Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón. A simple back pass from Pedri turned disastrous.

This mistake is worthy of being listened to in multiple languages.

There’s been some debate whether the own goal should go to Simón or Pedri. Please don’t give the poor 18-year-old the own goal, it’s not his fault that Simón went full youth soccer mode.
If the own goal goes to Simón it will be the fourth own goal from a goalkeeper in Euro 2020 so far. Spain’s own goal vs Croatia was the ninth of this tournament.
Ready for a crazy statistic? Prior to Euro 2020, there had only been nine own goals in all the other Euros combined.
