USMNT Midfielder Alejandro Bedoya Scores MLS Goal Of The Year Contender

Alejandro Bedoya has always been something of an enigma for United States National Team supporters. This primarily stems from the 29-year-old's decision to play abroad right after college — neglecting to enter the MLS SuperDraft.

Bedoya spent his time abroad in Sweden, Scotland and France, making his performances largely unwatchable apart from the occasional highlight reel. Compounding the mysterious qualities of Bedoya is Jurgen Klinsmann’s deployment of the natural attacking midfielder or winger in a variety of roles.

Bedoya was used as a defensive midfielder against Brazil back in 2015 to disastrous effect. Bedoya was new to the No. 6 role, and Brazil isn’t the best side to play when learning a new role.

Bedoya’s versatility has occasionally worked against him. However, Bedoya has found his stride while playing through the middle with Philadelphia.

In seven matches since signing for the Union on August 3rd, Philadelphia has compiled a record of three wins, two loses and two draws. Their only loses in that span have come against Toronto FC, tied for first in the Eastern Conference, and defending champions Portland.

The Union are on pace to make the MLS playoffs for only the second time in their club's history, their only appearance so far coming in 2011, and Bedoya has been vital for his side down the stretch.

His goal on Saturday earned the Union a massive point with only three regular season matches remaining.
