The Manchester City Machine Is Rolling Under Pep Guardiola

We’re three weeks into the Premier League season and a quick glance at the table confirms some of the more common preseason predictions. Manchester United appear to be a much stronger club, Chelsea have returned to winning ways and Manchester City are likely the title favorites.

Pep Guardiola has his club flying into September on the back of three highly impressive victories. That they’ve come against Sunderland, Stoke City and West Ham United is certainly a counterpoint, West Ham may even be the first team in ‘crises’ this season, but they’ve also managed to achieve these results without captain Vincent Kompany.

Under Guardiola, players like Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho appear revitalized while Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are at their brilliant best.

Against West Ham, Sterling stole this show. Criticized frequently last campaign for his lack of end product, Sterling scored twice for City and was brutally direct in his play.

He’s already registered three assists under Guardiola as well. Speaking to Sky Sports, Sterling said: “It was difficult coming in that first season, and the manager has come in this season and given us a lot of courage…He’s even had a go at me in the first half for not dribbling as much as I should do, so credit to him for giving me that boost.”

Guardiola himself is delighted with the way Sterling is playing, saying: “Of course we are so pleased about his spirit. He’s so dynamic, so aggressive with and without the ball — I’m so happy he’s playing good.”

Next up for Manchester City is a top of the table clash with rivals Manchester United. It’ll be billed as Guardiola versus Jose Mourinho as the Manchester Derby reaches new heights.
